Same Sex Marriage

A lot is being said and going on in the media and other groups regarding President Packer's General Conference talk and his comments regarding the issue of same-sex marriage. It's too bad that much of the media has made this such a defining aspect of the Church. It is a certainly a very challenging issue for most of us to completely understand. But as with any of the tough issues of life, they are opportunities to learn more, practice patience and love, and exercise faith.

People, regardless of how they label themselves, are still God's children. Regardless of their choices, inclinations, proclivities, genetics, or beliefs are still part of God's family. Regardless of any of the labels or categories we use for people, our primary goal should be to love others.

That single act is the real defining essence of the Church, as well as for all Christianity and of every true disciple of Christ. When people are loved, when people can feel God's love in their lives, they can accomplish anything. We shouldn't be trying to change people to be what we think they should be, but to help them feel loved, especially to experience a greater portion of God's love in their lives - and when they do, like us all, will change in whatever way necessary to have increased amounts and more consistent volumes of His love. And that is the most natural thing in the world!
