OUR
CHOICE
We made an infinitely
significant choice in our premortal life.
God presented us with a divine
plan, His plan.
Known by several names -
the plan of happiness,
the plan of salvation,
a plan of eternal progress,
a plan of hope,
a plan of mercy,
the plan of redemption,
the plan of restoration,
a plan of perfection,
and more.
We listened with intense
attention,
enthusiasm and great excitement.
We weighed all of the pros, all
the cons.
Later, there was a second,
alternative plan presented.
A very different and opposing
plan.
We also considered this plan,
fully weighing this second plan.
We considered both plans –
all sides, all contingencies, all
the options,
all the risks, all the rewards,
all the nuances,
all the consequences and all blessings
of each.
After solemn consideration,
extended contemplation,
meticulous discussion and
thorough deliberation…
we made a choice.
A choice that was infinitely
significant
and of eternal consequence.
We were free to make our own
choice,
without coercion or compulsion,
unencumbered.
Fully informed, completely
instructed,
we independently acted, we chose,
and we chose God’s plan.
We chose mortality.
For some, it was a most
improbable and illogical choice,
a choice requiring the most
faith,
which made it the harder choice,
a more difficult path.
Because with this choice, we
chose trials and pain and heartache,
disappointment and
discouragement and sin,
frustration, unfairness and weariness,
a choice where we would face
fear and evil,
sickness, mayhem and death.
It was a choice that would
require absolute trust in God.
Trust that a Savior would perfectly
perform
a perfect, graceful, infinite
and eternal atonement.
Trust that despite sin,
we could be, nevertheless, completely
redeemable.
Trust that we are literal
children of God.
Trust that He loves us
generously and mercifully.
Trust that He is a God of second
chances.
Trust that He knows us individually
and will,
in our best interest, place
before us a unique combination
of circumstances
to test our faithfulness and
help our progression.
At times, our choice might seem
that the difficulties
proportionately outweigh the
benefits.
But that’s not true!
For God has promised
to those that love and follow
Him -
“… eye hath not seen, nor ear
heard,
neither have entered into the
heart of man,
the things which God hath
prepared for them that love Him.”
Our charge: to love, to serve,
to obey, to repent,
to be patient, to heed His word,
and to endure to the end.
It was the right choice, it was the
best choice.
In order to successfully endure
to the end,
and to realize the unseen,
unheard and unknown
glorious blessings awaiting our
reunion in God’s Kingdom,
we can’t never, ever give up on
our choice.
